Here at our welcoming practice in Chatham, we’re proud to offer cutting-edge treatments that are efficient and conservative while offering calming comforts. Our dental inlays and onlays are no different
Inlays and Onlays are bespoke dental fillings created by highly skilled dental technicians in a dental laboratory. They are a more conservative approach to restoring a tooth’s. Dental inlays and onlays are used when a traditional filling cannot hold the weight of the natural tooth.
Both inlays and onlays serve the same purpose but they are inserted differently. An inlay is inserted inside the tooth cavity between the cusps of the tooth.Onlays are bonded to the biting surfaces of the teeth and usually have one or more cusps.
Dental inlays and onlays are typically made of composite resins or porcelain. They can be customised in multiple shades to match the natural colour of your teeth. Gold and zirconium can sometimes be used for extra durability when needed. You will be consulted about the material and shade of your restoration by your dental professional.
Fillings made of white materials can also be used to repair cavities, but they are intended for more minor restorations. The inlay/onlay is better suited to complex cases that require precision filling. Due to their design accuracy, they reduce the likelihood of wear and shrinkage associated with large, white fillings.
