Sometimes extractions are unavoidable, and our Smïl team will take the time to guide you through this process thoroughly.

Our goal is to provide patients with a comfortable, non-stressful dental extraction procedure in a friendly, supportive setting.

What is tooth extraction?

The word extraction means removal. Many reasons can lead to extractions, and they are necessary from time to time. Every step of the process will be carefully explained to you by our friendly dental team, so you know what to expect.

Our commitment to your care means we will refer elsewhere for extraction if we feel it is appropriate and safer to do so. Your dentist will discuss any referrals at the time of your consultation.

Why do I need an extraction?

Extractions are necessary for many reasons. Perhaps you need to make room for orthodontics (braces), or you may have problems with emerging wisdom teeth. In most cases, tooth extraction is the last option for a tooth that has undergone multiple treatments in the past and has no other viable options.

What can I expect at my extraction appointment?

Our friendly team will welcome you and help you settle into our comfortable chairs. Once you are comfortable, we will explain the entire process to you, including any minor risks. After you consent to proceed, we will apply a local anaesthetic to numb the area to prevent discomfort. During extraction, it is normal for you to feel pressure or pushing sensations.

Your experienced dental team will check your comfort levels regularly. If there is any other sensation than pressure or pushing, we will stop – immediately. As soon as the tooth has been removed, you will be given a gauze pack to bite on to stem minor bleeding, and you will be given aftercare instructions.
